A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in Athens in honor of the Indian activist, by the Ministers of External Affairs of Greece and India Mr. N. Dendias and Dr. S. Jaishankar during a special event which was held on June 26, 2021.
During the unveiling ceremony near the Indian Embassy in the city, the two Ministers expressed the belief that the new statue will act as a strong symbol of friendship and shared values between Greece and India.
Even before both countries establish bilateral ties, many high-net-worth Indians have shown interest in the Greek Residency by Investment Program, one of the most affordable shortcuts for EU residency that does not require applicants to reside in the country prior or after submitting an application. Moreover, while investors are not allowed to take up local employment, they can start or expand their businesses in Greece. These might explain why more and more Indians choose Greece as the destination from where they enjoy a high quality of life, access to profitable investments and world-class education opportunities.
