Europe will soon see an influx of wealthy Americans seeking residency, as interest in ‘golden visas’ has surged following Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential elections.
A notable number of American citizens dissatisfied with Donald Trump’s recent election victory are considering relocation to Europe through Golden Visa programs, with Greece emerging as one of the preferred destinations.
Sector firm Henley & Partners has reported that its website hits by Americans have nearly quadrupled since just prior to the US election.
But many of these people do not intend to move abroad permanently. “Most Americans are just focused on having the choice,” said Dominic Volek, head of private clients at Henley & Partners.
Americans were not a major source of demand for golden visas until the pandemic, when Covid lockdowns meant they were unable to visit Europe without a European passport, even if they owned second homes on the continent or could travel by private jet, according to Volek.
Investors from all over the world are drawn to the Greece Golden Visa program for more than just the residency rights. It’s the culture and the ‘Mediterranean dream.’ Even with the recent increases in the minimum investment requirements, Greece remains one of the most affordable ways for non-EU foreign investors and their family members to gain access to the Schengen Area. For those willing to navigate the process, it’s a rewarding option both personally and financially.
